The Millington Navy Lake site is a multipurpose indoor and outdoor recreation area bordering the Millington Airport. It encompasses 115 acres. A multi-use lake house is one of the focal points of this site. This 3500-square foot air conditioned, rustic facility can host a wide range of gatherings. The lake house overlooks one of three lakes on the property. Two additional lakes are within walking distance. All three lakes are stocked by the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency. Canoeing and paddleboats are available for rent. Two large outdoor pavilions and 11 small pavilions provide opportunities for large and small family gatherings. Food services can be provided by the facility manager. Related recreation options include pads for 24 recreational vehicle hookups. Twelve have water, sewer and electric connections. Twelve have water and electricity. Large swaths of open green space are also available for creative free play.
The Millington Airport borders Navy Lake. This airport is still utilized by various branches of the US military. Quite often, users of Navy Lake are treated to close up views of a wide range of takeoffs and landings from aircraft from the U.S. Navy, Army, Marines and Air Force. Sometimes a sharp eye can discern National Aeronautics, Space Administration and Homeland and Border Security aircraft utilizing the airport.
Directly bordering the this property will be a joint US Navy and Tennessee Valley Authority solar farm. It will encompass more than 400 acres and will be under construction during 2018. This facility will have an educational component available to the public. Navy Lake is within a fifteen-minute drive of a variety of eating, shopping, and related recreation facilities in Millington. Downtown Memphis can be reached in approximately 30 minutes. Currently a private contractor leases Navy Lake from the Millington Industrial Development Board.
